Round Two– East Sectionals Thomas v. Gordon

Time now for the 2009 preposterous statement tournament (not to be confused with the Common Man Dan Cole’s Preposterous Statement Tournament). You can follow the tournament by using the 20 Times Around the Block Preposterous Statement bracket. Make your pick for a winner! A complete list of the statements can be found here.

The first round is all done, and the second round of prepostersous statement madness is taking off!

Which statement is more preposterous?

In a way Obama is standing above the country, above the world. He’s sort of GOD. He’s going to bring all different sides together.–Evan Thomas

The New Testament does not teach anywhere that every individual believer is to be involved actively in evangelism. –T. David Gordon

Evan Thomas is my pick for winning the tournament. Could David Gordon pull an upset?

  1. OK, I’ve been scanning these briefly in my feed reader, but this one’s got me particularly appalled. Statement one is just blasphemous (kind of like the Kenyan calendars that the major text book chain was putting out at the beginning of 2009 with pictures of Obama and bible verses such as “His name shall be called wonderful counsellor, prince of peace” and “the government shall be upon his hsoulders” AAAAAH!)

But for someone to say that the Bible doesn’t teach evangelism??? From the call of Abraham back in Genesis 12, that’s God’s SOLE PURPOSE – to bring people from all the families of the earth together in worhsip and enjoyment of His glory – and WE are the instruments to DO that!

Preposterous indeed! I cna’t pick. I might have to refresh and vote again… (will it let me do that?)
