Round One – West Sectionals 8 v. 9

It’s time now for 2009 Preposterous Statement Tournament (not to be confused with the Common Man Dan Cole’s Preposterous Statement Tournament). You can follow the tournament by using the 20 Times Around the Block Preposterous Statement bracket. Make your pick for a winner! A complete list of the statements can be found here.

Which statement is more preposterous?

8. The non-existence of God is for me not an obstacle but a precondition to believing in God.–Klaas Hendrikse

9. Abortion is a blessing and our work is not done.–The Rev. Dr. Katherine Ragsdale

We come to the West’s marquee matchup where two utterly insane theologians come together to outdo one for the most preposterous religious statement ever uttered. Klaas Hendrikse is an atheist. And he believes in God! In his statement he explains exactly how this can be. Katherine Ragsdale wants you to know that abortion, not having children, is a blessing, and that she will not rest until every pregnancy is terminated!

  1. Emotionally Katherine’s is a more preposterous statement but I’m a man and not ruled by emotion. Therefore I go with Klaas’ statement which is more rationally preposterous.

  2. Unspar says:

I agree with the above comment. Really, these two could both have made it to the Elite 8 had they not been matched up in round 1.
