How far should we strip-mine humanity in order to save it?

The above question comes from one of the many penetrating articles about president Obama’s lift on the funding ban of embryonic stem cell research. Obama appeals to a “consensus” from all sides that agree the ban should be lifted and this research should go forward. Amazingly, he ignored the stunning advances in stem cell research that obtain the desired stem cells without harvesting them from human embryos.
